Putting some Spring in my Step

"And Spring arose on the garden fair, like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere; And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast rose from the dreams of its wintry rest." ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley

Months ago, I told myself that I was going to embrace winter and that I was going to feel optimistic about it. Uh, that is just not happening. I can't help it, I'm a springtime girl! I long to be outside and smell that clean air and wet grass. I am happiest when I am digging in my garden and feeling the light warmth of the sun on my skin. Spring brings out the best in me.

Last night we had a thunderstorm and got some rain and I woke up to a little tease of a very slight spring feeling in the air. I took a walk with my son to his bus stop and breathed it in. I knew that when I got back, I wanted to make coffee and play around in Photoshop with some spring photos from last year. As you can tell by my new blog header, I am getting in the spring mindset ~ even if it is a tad early. It takes away the winter blues and crabbiness. Whatever helps, right?

So, yeah I am counting down the days until March 1st. One more month! It's almost here. Spring officially begins for me on March 1st. ;) And once spring comes, I am under those trees with my camera and driving my husband nuts having to stop here and here whenever I spy some beauty. Oh the fun. But, those blooms are so short. Almost precious to me.

And then there is that day in very late winter when you hear the very first early morning singing of birds out your window. That day puts a smile on my face and a big spring in my step... love that!

Yes, this month {January} has been a long one. It feels like it is going so slow and dragging. But, it is finally almost over.

And pretty soon we'll be seeing these lovely petals again! :)

  3. Hi Lara,
Hope you are feeling much better soon..... I linger onto your blog from time to time, I just love your photos, they are really beautiful!
I guess you wouldn't like the winter we get here up in Northern Ontario Canada, the past two weeks we had a cold snap with temp's in the -40's C, yup, that's Celsius. March for us is still winter and it is called the snow storm month, but this year so far we haven't had the normal amount of snow as usual. I don't like that because with the cold it leaves the chance that some of my perennials might die. It is just so hard on nature itself! Spring is May here, we can't plant our garden till May and the more sensitive veggies till the 2nd week of June. We still have a great harvest of vegetables and many beautiful gardens, just a very short summer.
I actually like the winter, just not the length of it, even the dry cold weather is nice, nicer than the damp cold that comes to some areas of the country, like southern Ontario. The dampness really feels colder than a dry cold!
Nonetheless, I'll still be poppin' in here and other places that get Spring earlier and waiting anxiously for it to come to me.
Have a wonderful and blessed day

  6. You've got me dreaming of spring now, too, as I peer out my window on a wintery snow scene. The snow truly is beautiful, but there's nothing like those spring flowers! Hang in there Lara...

  16. I hear you about the arrival of spring and can't wait (we cheat and go south now ;>)

As for stopping to capture beauty spotted, we've worked out a compromise - I note the spot and come back later ... alone, with the dog.
