I am an all or nothing kind of girl. I completely neglected my backyard, but this is what I put my all into ~ my front garden beds. I am enjoying the summer color show and I wanted to blog it. I went around and took photos of corners of my garden. Can you tell I like pink and purple flowers?
Lavender, russian sage, zinnia, cosmos, and a butterfly bush compliment each other. I will always grow cosmos every summer; they are so easy to grow ~ just scatter and water. To be frugal, I am going to harvest all the seeds from my zinnias for planting next spring. I love the instant color and volume they add to the garden.
Here is a view of the left side of my front garden. This spot gets a lot of sunshine. I'm thinking about putting another butterfly bush there. We have had so many butterflies and hummingbirds since I put in a butterfly bush last summer. The prairie lies behind my backyard.
This summer I let my garden patch go in the backyard. I want to build raised beds, but I never got around to it. So, this summer I just planted my tomato plants in with the flowers. They are starting to change to red and in the coming weeks we'll have lots of good old homegrown tomatoes.
Thank you for taking a little tour of my garden with me. Pottering in my garden is one of my favorite things. It brings me boundless joy. What flowers are you growing in your garden this summer?

Love the affects you get with your photos. Just beautiful ... soft and ethereal.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos. Each and every one. Of course, I love the beauty of your black cat.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sharnymeelarny, your photography is so soft and dreamy (how do you work your magic?).
ReplyDeleteAnd such a beautiful and inviting summer garden!
Hi! Thank you! For these, I added a soft light layer of a very pale lilac shade in Photoshop Elements.

ReplyDeletedreamy photos...your cat looks like a person
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks so beautiful! Gosh, I love those cosmos. I'm definitely going to have to give those a try next summer. I had to laugh a little when you talked about neglecting your backyard in favor of the front...I did the same thing. You'd be horrified if you saw what I have cooking around here...lots of weeds!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, your garden is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHi Lara,
ReplyDeleteI think you need to make a book filled with your beautiful photos...I would buy it in a heartbeat. These are gorgeous! You have the most calming and peaceful blog...I can only imagine how lovely it must really be around your home.
I've neglected the front gardens but love to work in the back. I planted a miniature rose bush last fall and before I left there were little pink roses growing in the most perfect little bouquets. I sure hope my son is watering it while I'm gone! :)
Lara, your gardens are just beautiful - as is your photography! My flowers have all seemed to go dormant because of the drought here in MI, so there's not much color out there right now at all. :( So it brought me so much pleasure seeing your beautiful flowers today! :)

Just scatter and water..... I wish.... Your garden is sooooo beautiful. My dreamgarden really. I wished the soil in our garden would be better and scattering seeds and watering would be enough to create the fairytale you showed us here. Instead it's a constant struggle. This year is the worst so far. I'm close to giving up. Right now, I'd rather move and start over elsewhere. I love seeing beautiful gardens in blogland, it's like fleeing from reality a bit.
ReplyDeleteBye,
Marian
Thank you, Marian. I tilled my soil with lots of peat moss. That has really helped this area.. Otherwise it is pretty much like cement or hardened clay. I think working the soil is the key.
DeleteI'm so jealous of your family garden! I've been dreaming of a nice, big garden...but we can't afford a house with a big land here in Toronto - real estate prices are through the roof in the city (we don't want to move to the suburbs as well, as we like to keep it close to work - we hate commuting!). We live in a condo apartment now, and I'm hoping a ground floor level or one with a balcony opens up for sale because I want garden even if it were a small one! Your garden is so beautiful - I am literally green with envy :)
