Natural Festive Mantel

I was in the mood to gradually welcome in the new season and what better way to start than a little mantel decoration. I wanted to keep it simple and not have it too much Christmas overload - more like a progression to Christmas decorating; know what I mean?

I'm sure once Thanksgiving is over I'll be doing another look in its place - playtime for me! I took these pics before the sun really came out, so they are a little dark.

In keeping with the natural and rustic look, I put some branches in glass vases to give the needed height. The cute silver ball ornaments I got at Target. I took off the silver string they came with and added jute string instead.

Going against my thought to leave my vintage blackboard alone, I sprayed it white and also took off the ledge.  An easy pinecone garland with vintage lace (here's where I got the inspiration) adds a some simple interest.

For warm candle light glow, I weaved in a few Mercury Glass candle holders, as well as a couple white candles. And lastly, a scattering of pinecones and paper dove punches.

We got some cold rain last night - typical Illinois November weather. I'm looking forward to some snowflakes. November and December are always nice here in the Midwest. Now I'm off to relax and prepare for the weekend.
